Spa Etiquette

Lavande therapists and staff will maintain professional boundaries and abide by Lavande's code of conduct when interacting with spa clients. To ensure your spa experience is enjoyable, observe the Code of Conduct, be personally aware and use common sense, and inform your therapist of any discomfort or change in health. Our spa is dedicated to providing a holistic safe environment for both staff and clients.

What to expect

Prior to your first massage, you will need to fill out a health history form and sign any consent forms based on the massage treatment that is booked. If this is a repeat massage visit, your therapist will refer to any prior notes taken during previous visits. Payment is processed at the time of your appointment, any changes must be made prior to your appointment by the end of the previous business day.

The time you book is the time spent on the table; set up time, pre/post massage intake will not take away from your massage time. Your therapist will arrive 15 minutes prior to your treatment start time to set up the table and equipment, and will ask you if there are any areas that need more focus or any areas to avoid. Depending on the treatment booked, your therapist will help you either pick out an essential oil, determine where kinesiotape would be most beneficial, or go over any of the other upgrades.

Your therapist will then exit the treatment area in order to give you privacy while getting on the massage table. Clients may undress to their comfort level, undergarments may be worn for comfort, before relaxing in-between our exquisitely soft, hypo-allergenic Comphy sheets. Once you are settled the massage therapist will re-enter and begin the massage.

Your modesty is always respected and you will be draped except for the area being massaged which will be un-draped, massaged, and recovered. Draping is required for warmth and to protect professional boundaries established between client and therapist. The State of Utah requires anyone wishing to have pectoral or abdominal work to sign a waiver if he/she does not wish to have their breasts/nipples draped. It is recommended that women do not wear a bra during a massage when one wants more focused back work; you will remain draped when face up and will not be exposed during the massage. If booking a sports massage, which involves stretching, it is recommended to wear undergarments or athletic shorts/bra for your comfort.

If there is anywhere that you do not want massaged or feel uncomfortable being un-draped, please inform your therapist.  Inform your therapist at any point if you need the pressure, temperature, technique, or music to be changed or volume adjusted, or anything ever becomes uncomfortable.

After the massage has ended your therapist will leave to wash their hands and allow you a couple of minutes to slowly sit up and get dressed again. Once you are clothed your therapist will return and will give you self-care recommendations before repacking the equipment. It is always recommended to drink plenty of water after a massage and to ice and stretch any sore areas.

Lavande has a no tolerance policy toward inappropriate behavior or requests. Any sexual advance toward a therapist will result in immediate termination of the massage without a refund and will not be allowed to remain a client of the spa.  If the therapist’s safety is ever threatened, the authorities will be notified.

All therapists are licensed by the state and must adhere to Lavande's code of conduct; the spa maintains a strict no tolerance policy for therapists or staff acting inappropriately towards or with a client of the spa or discussing any personal data of a spa client. Professional boundaries are maintained to ensure a safe environment for both staff and clients.
